Revere, MA - While NECCO produces delicious sweets that are enjoyed by many year round, the company takes great pride in the excitement that surrounds their beloved Sweethearts during Valentine’s Day. It’s a time of the year when everyone is focused on surprising their loved ones with special presents that show their true love and affection. NECCO’s Sweethearts have long been an important part in this gift-giving tradition and several media outlets were excited to share the stories of Sweethearts, past and present!

Since this season is a favorite for passionate candy fans, many candy websites wanted to get in on the Valentine’s Day fun! Two popular candy blogs, Collecting Candy and Candy Blog grabbed a pair of NECCO’s newest Sweethearts products, Hot Hearts and Cool Hearts, to review for the season. NECCO was thrilled that both websites gave the new treats rave reviews on both the delicious bold flavors and the fun packaging!

Each year, NECCO receives messages that their fans love Sweethearts but are always looking for an even bigger and better way to express their love and appreciation for their special sweeties. To meet these growing requests, this year NECCO took a chance to revolutionize the gift-giving game and made solid gold Sweethearts available for purchase with customized engraved sayings! With such a ground-breaking venture as this one, news companies both locally in NECCO’s Massachusetts community, as well as across the country, were buzzing about this truly one-of-a-kind Valentine’s Day present!

Not stopping there, NECCO made this Valentine’s Day special in the digital world as well with their #tweethearts campaign, carried out in conjunction with Boston’s top ad agency Hill Holliday.  In this program, Twitter users could send a Tweet to the @tweethearts account and would receive an image back from the account that showed their tweet spelled out on Sweethearts with a link to order them for their sweetie! With such a fun, innovative initiative, the online world was abuzz with excitement for #tweethearts and couldn’t wait to send their Sweetheart a Tweetheart!

Finally, who can forget that some of the most fun times we have had at Valentine’s Day is when we are kids. In this spirit of the joys of childhood, NECCO took their traditional kid-friendly Sweethearts one step further with the launch of Color Your Own Sweethearts! These deliciously fun treats feature the regular Sweethearts flavors of grape, orange, blue raspberry, strawberry, lemon and green apple, but have exciting new boxes. These boxes showcase cute black and white stencil designs, perfect for kids to color in using their own imagination! In conjunction with this product launch, NECCO also announced the Color Your Own Sweethearts Coloring Contest. This contest allowed kids ages 5-12 submit their designs of their colored in boxes for a chance to win a $1,000 Savings Bond and the opportunity to have their own personal phrase appear on a Sweetheart in 2015!

Overall, the 2014 Valentine’s Day season was truly exhilarating. With each initiative, Sweethearts fans were treated to fresh and exciting ways to enjoy their favorite Valentine’s Day treat. After all this buzz, NECCO is already looking forward to creating more memories next year!
